Thomson-Reuters: Top 100 Innovators

Thomson-Reuters recently published its annual ranking of the top 100 global innovators, among companies and research entities, that have excelled worldwide in 2011.
The four parameters used to evaluate the companies and entities were: the proportion between patent applications filed and granted, their international coverage, their economic impact and the number of patents that started a trend.
Thomson-Reuters’ report highlights some interesting aspects including the total absence of Italian companies, the predominance of Nordic countries among the top innovators and the undisputed domination of the United States and of Japan.
China is absent: it patents a great deal, but is not considered important in terms of contribution to innovation.
The report underlines how innovation enables economic progress: the 100 innovators ranked created 400,000 jobs in 2010.
